Before you start, understand how the College Board scores.
AP Italian Language is a fully digital AP subject delivered via Bluebook. The exam tests all 4 skills: Listening + Reading (Section I MCQ), Writing + Speaking (Section II Free Response). Understanding the structure helps your child allocate study time to the right focus areas.
Score 5/5 distribution in 2024
According to College Board data, only 12.3% of students worldwide achieve a 5 on AP Italian — a low rate because most test-takers are non-heritage learners. Our team focuses on common weak spots for Vietnamese students: typing Italian with accents (à, è, é, ì, ò, ù), grammar (gerund, congiuntivo), and free speech about Italian culture.

Sample question — Comprensione della lettura.
This is a typical AP Italian Reading MCQ from Section I Part B. Students read a short passage (e-mail, news article, blog post...) and then answer questions about meaning, context, or inference.
Leggete il seguente articolo pubblicato in un quotidiano italiano: (Read the following article published in an Italian newspaper:)
Qual è il significato culturale dell'aperitivo secondo l'articolo? (According to the article, what is the cultural significance of the aperitivo?)
How to solve: The question asks to identify the significato culturale (cultural significance) — not specific details.
Key phrase: "oggi è parte integrante dell'identità culturale italiana" (today it is an integral part of Italian cultural identity).
• (A) wrong: the opposite — the aperitivo was "nato a Torino nell'Ottocento" (born in Turin in the 19th century), not imported from another country.
• (B) wrong: the article says "soprattutto nelle città del nord come Milano e Bologna" (especially in the NORTH, not the south).
• (D) wrong: the article only says it is consumed "prima di cena" (before dinner), not as a replacement for dinner.
→ The correct answer is (C). Our tip: for Italian reading MCQs, pay special attention to words indicating time + origin (nato, oggi, Ottocento) — they are often the key to distinguishing between answer choices that sound similar.
