AP Chemistry
One of the hardest AP subjects with a score-5 rate of just ~14%. Your child will learn atomic structure, chemical bonding, thermodynamics and kinetics — required for Pre-Med, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science majors.
Before you start, understand how the College Board scores.
AP Chemistry has a balanced structure between MCQ (60 questions) and FRQ (7 questions — 3 long + 4 short). Understanding the structure helps your child allocate study time to the right priorities.
2024 distribution of score 5/5
According to College Board data, only 14.1% of students worldwide score a 5 in AP Chemistry — considered one of the hardest AP subjects. Our students achieve a score-5 rate 1.5-2x higher than this thanks to drilling all 7 skills labs and 7 FRQs to rubric standard.

Sample question — Stoichiometry & Limiting Reactant.
A typical AP Chemistry MCQ testing the limiting reactant concept — a question type with major weight in Unit 4.
Given the reaction: N₂(g) + 3H₂(g) → 2NH₃(g). If we mix 4 mol N₂ and 9 mol H₂, which is the limiting reactant and what is the maximum mol of NH₃ that can be produced?
Solution: Calculate the max product moles if each reactant is limiting:
• If N₂ is limiting: 4 mol N₂ × (2 NH₃ / 1 N₂) = 8 mol NH₃
• If H₂ is limiting: 9 mol H₂ × (2 NH₃ / 3 H₂) = 6 mol NH₃
The limiting reactant is the one that produces LESS product → H₂ is limiting, producing at most 6 mol NH₃.
Verify by ratio: need 3 mol H₂ per mol N₂. With 4 mol N₂ → need 12 mol H₂. Only have 9 mol H₂ → H₂ is short → H₂ is limiting.
→ The correct answer is (B). Our team's tip: for stoichiometry MCQs, always compute both reactants then pick the min — don't guess and fall for trap answers (A) or (D).
